When Tanger Outlets and Poag Development selected Southaven, Mississippi, as the site of their newest outlet shopping center, they worked with the State of Mississippi to identify a theme that would tie into the state’s cultural heritage tourism efforts. The developers chose the Mississippi Blues Trail. Once the project was committed, H&A was contacted to develop all tourism-related features for this $164-million development.
In addition to designing the large illuminated interpretive markers and banners that hang overhead, H&A was tasked with creating the designs for several large-scale sculptural pieces that add visual interest to the shopping experience and reinforce the Blues Trail theme.
A key component of the visitor experience is a pair of kiosks that feature the Mississippi Blues Trail app. The entire interactive display was scaled up to play on 60” touch-screen monitors designed to work in all types of weather.
A brochure was also produced introducing visitors to the Blues Trail, and the developer reported that 15,000 of the brochures were picked up from holders attached to the monuments in a 60-day period.
